The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is known as “The Marketplace For The World” as each week it hosts large exhibitions and expositions. The Jacob Javits Convention Center is located New York City’s lower west side of Manhattan between Eleventh Avenue and Twelfth Avenue and 34th street and 39th street, overlooking the Hudson River. The Javits Center clearly stands out with its unique box façade covered by glass.
The Jacob K Javits Convention Center was designed by architects I. M. Pei and partners. The revolutionary space frame building was constructed in 1986 and named for United States Senator Jacob K. Javits, who died that year. The Center is operated and maintained by the New York City Convention Center Operating Corporation. The exhibit space has more than 675,000 square feet (62,700 m2). On October 16, 2006, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Javits Center to initiate construction of an expansion. The $1.7 billion dollar expansion project will expand the center's size by nearly $50 percent, and also include a hotel. The project is scheduled for completion by 2010, and when finished, will make the Jacob Javits Convention Center the 5th instead of the 18th largest convention center in the U.S.

The center can accommodate about 85,000 visitors during an exhibition, and attracts about 3 million annual visitors, a significant portion of New York City’s tourism. In January of 2009, the Javits Center hosted the Children’s Club Trade Show, Value Price Expo – Wholesale Sourcing Trade Show, National Retail Federation - Trade, New York International Motorcycle Show - Trade/Public. The New York International Motorcycle Show exhibits the latest motorcycles models and accessories including apparel, ATV accessories, fairing and parts, goggles and eyewear, helmets, leather, novelties, off road products, parts and performance products.
In February of 2009, Javits Center held Texworld USA , New York Times Travel Show - Trade/Public, New York Comic Con Show - trade/public, IT Roadmap Conference and Expo 2009, American International Toy Fair® , Fashion Coterie, CurveNY, AccessoriesTheShow , Sole Commerce, New York Int'l Art Expo - Trade/Public, New York Wine Expo. February’s events included several luxury exhibitions. The New York Wine Expo is a three-day exposition catering to both the general public and the trade in the nation's hub. It’s a fantastic opportunity to sample over 600 wines from over 170 winemakers from around the world in the Grand Tasting exhibition. Meanwhile CurveNY and Boutique Lingerie present juried lingerie, swimwear and men’s underwear for spring and summer 2009.
March 2009 exhibitions at the Javits Center include NYC FIRST Robotics Competition - Public, Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America - Trade, Children's Club - Trade, Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI), Interphex - Trade, The MBA Tour – Business School Fair, The 16th Original GLBT Expo, International Vision Expo - Trade, College Fair 2009 - Special Event. The theme of March events is clearly related to education and technology. However, Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America - Trade still presented luxury exhibitions. Over than 5,000 domestic and international buyers view the best component parts, machinery, tools, finished jewelry, packaging, and service providers that the jewelry industry has to offer.
